As families across the borough were waking up to celebrate, one man’s life was violently cut short in a brazen daylight shooting that has left a community in shock and investigators racing against the clock.
A Morning Shattered by Gunfire
The peace was broken just after 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Powell Street and Belmont Avenue. In a neighborhood usually buzzing with last-minute holiday errands, the sound of gunshots sent witnesses ducking for cover.
Officers from the 73rd Precinct arrived on the scene to find a 46-year-old man collapsed on the pavement. He had sustained a catastrophic gunshot wound to the chest.
The Desperate Fight for Life
First responders acted quickly, rushing the victim to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Despite the frantic efforts of trauma surgeons and medical staff to save him, the injuries proved too severe.
