July 3, 2025 MELROSE, Brooklyn, NY – A terrifying scene unfolded on Thursday just before 11 a.m. in Melrose, Brooklyn, leaving six pedestrians injured and a community shaken. Police are actively searching for two suspects who, after striking a pedestrian, lost control of their vehicle, careened into scaffolding, and then struck five more individuals before abandoning their car and fleeing on foot.
The incident began when a black Ford Mustang, traveling eastbound on East 149th Street, attempted a left turn onto Courtlandt Avenue. In a calamitous turn of events, the vehicle first struck a pedestrian.
In a desperate attempt to flee the initial collision, the driver reportedly lost control of the powerful Mustang. The car veered sharply, jumping the curb and slamming into a construction scaffolding. The impact didn't stop there; the out-of-control vehicle then struck five additional pedestrians, causing further panic and injuries.
Following the chaotic sequence of events, both suspects quickly abandoned the damaged Mustang and fled the scene on foot. As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and the New York Police Department continues its investigation.
Victims Hospitalized, Building Deemed Stable
All six pedestrians—three males and three females—were transported to Lincoln Hospital. Fortunately, their injuries are reported as minor, and they are all in stable condition.
The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) was on the scene to assess the damage to the scaffolding. According to DOB officials, the vehicle's impact dislodged four uprights and several cross beams of the shed. The area has been taped off and sealed for safety.
The DOB is in communication with the scaffolding company, who are already on-site to commence repairs. Critically, a DOB inspection of the adjacent building revealed no structural stability issues, providing a measure of relief to area residents and businesses.
