October 6, 2025 BROOKLYN, NY In a shocking incident that shattered the quiet of a Brooklyn Sunday morning, an apparently armed man was shot and killed by police responding to a domestic violence call in the Canarsie neighborhood. The fatal, police-involved shooting, which unfolded just after 9 a.m. on October 5th, is now under intense scrutiny by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.

The 911 Call That Led to Tragedy

The confrontation began when six uniformed officers from the 67th Precinct rushed to an apartment complex at 125 East 86th St. Sources familiar with the case confirm the emergency stemmed from a man arriving at the location in direct violation of an active court-issued order of protection.

According to Assistant Chief Frank Giordano, Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, officers quickly spotted the suspect—a man matching the description provided by the 911 caller, a woman with whom he had a prior relationship and two documented domestic incidents.

"As they approached that individual, he fled," Chief Giordano stated.

The Chase: A Block-and-a-Half of Panic

What followed was a tense foot pursuit that tore through the residential streets. The chase, captured in real-time by the officers’ body cameras, continued southbound on East 86th Street for approximately a block and a half before the suspect was cornered near the intersection of Coventry Road.

It was at this critical moment that the situation escalated violently.

Chief Giordano reported that the male suspect suddenly pointed a handgun directly at the officers. In the chaotic scene, police issued "repeated verbal demands" for him to drop the weapon.

"He was ordered numerous times, multiple times, to drop that weapon," Giordano stressed. "After repeated warnings were given... and the subject did not comply with those orders, the subject was shot once in his chest."

Eyewitnesses Describe the Tense Finale

The raw drama was witnessed by shocked area residents. One resident, Mercedes Clark, recalled seeing the chase and hearing others in the street "screaming for the man to drop the weapon" just before the fatal shot.

"A pair of officers came out of [a] car and fired a single shot," Clark said. She added that after the shooting, officers immediately rolled the man over and rushed him into the back of a patrol car.

Despite officers quickly rendering medical aid and making the decision to transport the gravely wounded man by patrol car to Kings County Hospital—a choice Chief Giordano said was made "because we wanted to save his life"—the suspect ultimately expired at the hospital.

The Aftermath: Recovered Weapon and Ongoing Investigation

Police recovered the firearm the suspect allegedly brandished at the officers at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending the notification of his family.

The officers involved in the shooting were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, a standard procedure following an incident of this nature.

The entire matter now rests with the NYPD Force Investigation Division (FID), which will meticulously review all evidence, including the crucial body camera footage, to determine if the use of lethal force was within departmental guidelines. This tragic incident marks yet another stark reminder of the dangers police face while responding to volatile domestic incidents.

Stay tuned for updates on the suspect's identity and the outcome of the FID investigation.
