June 18, 2025 New York, NY – A scene of shocking violence unfolded Monday at Manhattan Criminal Court, as a suspect allegedly launched an attack on multiple court officers, leaving several wounded. The individual, identified as Jonathan Wohl, 37, has been remanded to custody and is now facing grave charges, including three counts of attempted murder. He is being held without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 20.
The incident, which sent a jolt through the usually bustling courthouse at 100 Centre Street, reportedly occurred around 9:45 a.m. on June 16. Wohl allegedly assaulted uniformed court officers in the lobby of the building's south side. In the chaotic moments that followed, two officers were reportedly stabbed and slashed, while three others sustained injuries.
While the motive behind the alleged assault remains murky, sources indicate Wohl had "several outstanding issues" within the courthouse. The District Attorney's office is treating the incident as a potentially premeditated attack.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg addressed the gravity of the situation in a statement, emphasizing the critical role of court officers. "The court officers perform a vital and profound function. It's a dangerous job. We are thankful for what they do," Bragg stated. He further underscored the alleged targeted nature of the attack, asserting, "The defendant, we allege, as it appears, engaged in targeted activity focused on officers. We will not tolerate that in Manhattan. We're grateful for the work they do each and every day."
