June 2, 2025 THE BRONX, N.Y. – What began as a routine repossession of a Con Edison gas and electric meter at a Bronx property quickly escalated into a major drug bust on Friday, as authorities unearthed an extensive illegal grow operation yielding over 350 pounds of illicit THC and cannabis products, along with a significant quantity of magic mushrooms.

The unexpected discovery unfolded at 967 Longfellow Avenue when the City Marshal’s office, accompanied by Con Edison personnel, arrived to serve repossession papers for the utility meter. To their surprise, they stumbled upon what officials describe as a sophisticated grow house.

Upon entering the building, authorities were met with a scene revealing multiple cannabis plants under cultivation. The swift response led to the involvement of the Sheriff’s Department, which ultimately conducted a thorough seizure of the illegal narcotics.

The extensive haul included:

  • 270.1 lbs. of growing cannabis plants
  • 56.2 lbs. of cannabis flower
  • 23.9 lbs. of edibles
  • 1.8 lbs. of psilocybin mushrooms (commonly known as magic mushrooms)

In addition to the substantial seizure of illicit substances, the property faced immediate repercussions for its illegal activities. Authorities issued multiple civil violations, including a vacate order from the Department of Buildings and violations from Con Edison. The building has been issued an immediate closure order.

Police confirmed that a further investigation into the operation is currently underway. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal drug cultivation and distribution within New York City.
