October 3, 2026 THE BRONX, NY A horrifying broad-daylight attack in the quiet neighborhood of Norwood left an off-duty NYPD detective suffering from multiple stab wounds on Friday afternoon, triggering a massive police response and an urgent borough-wide manhunt.

The violence erupted just before 2:00 p.m. on October 2 near 3174 Rochambeau Avenue, within the confines of the NYPD's 52nd Precinct. What was supposed to be a routine afternoon turned into a fight for survival when two armed assailants targeted the officer in an aggressive robbery attempt.

Ambushed Outside His Vehicle

Sources familiar with the ongoing investigation revealed that the victim—an off-duty detective assigned to the Bronx's 44th Precinct—was simply walking toward his parked car when the attackers struck.

Two male suspects approached the officer and attempted to forcefully yank a chain from around his neck. When the robbery escalated, the perpetrators drew a sharp weapon and viciously plunged it into the detective. The officer suffered at least seven stab wounds across his body before the attackers fled the scene at high speed on a scooter.

Emergency responders rushed the wounded detective to Jacobi Hospital, where medical staff worked to stabilize his condition.

"Earlier today, an off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed several times in the Bronx during what preliminary information indicates was an attempted robbery," Mayor Mamdani confirmed in an official statement Friday afternoon. "He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery. I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account."

Prior to the stabbing, Commissioner Tisch and Mayor Mamdani had been scheduled to address the media during a highly anticipated 3:00 p.m. press briefing focused on the city’s latest quarterly crime statistics. In the chaotic aftermath of the attack, police officials canceled the briefing indefinitely as leadership shifted complete focus to the crisis and the active investigation.

Detectives from the 52nd Precinct and surrounding commands are currently scouring the area around Rochambeau Avenue for surveillance footage, eyewitness accounts, and any clues that could lead to the identification and capture of the suspects on the run.
