January 10, 2026 Midtown Manhattan is known for its frantic energy, but on the afternoon of January 2nd, that energy turned into a scene of pure horror.
At 3:55 p.m., right in the heart of the city near 34th Street and 7th Avenue, a 28-year-old man was walking through the crowded streets when he was suddenly and violently slashed in the arm. The attack was swift, unprovoked, and occurred while the sun was still up and the sidewalks were teeming with commuters.
A Desperate Escape
As the victim collapsed, the assailant didn’t hesitate. The suspect blended into the urban landscape, fleeing on foot toward West 38th Street. Despite the heavy police presence usually found in the Penn Station corridor, the attacker managed to vanish before officers could close in.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the victim losing a significant amount of blood. He was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in critical but stable condition, where he continues to recover from the traumatic wound.
Have You Seen This Man?
The NYPD is now scouring surveillance footage from local businesses to track the suspect’s movements. They are looking for a man with a dark complexion who was dressed in "all-black" attire at the time of the assault:
-
Headwear: Black cap
-
Clothing: Black jacket and black pants
-
Distinctive Item: A blue book bag
How You Can Help
The streets of Midtown are never empty, and the NYPD is betting that someone saw this man’s face or recorded the incident on their phone. Even the smallest detail could be the key to taking a violent offender off the streets.

If you have any information, do not stay silent. Your tip could save a life.
