August 25, 2025 CENTRAL PARK, NYC — The city that never sleeps was left rattled after a seemingly random and brutal assault on two men in separate attacks on the west side of Central Park early Monday morning. The shocking violence, carried out by a single suspect, has sparked concern among residents and park-goers, who are now asking just how safe the city’s most iconic green space truly is.
The chaotic night began at approximately 1:27 a.m. near West 62nd Street. According to police reports, an 18-year-old was ambushed, suffering a vicious assault that included being punched, kicked, and choked by an unidentified assailant. The motive for the attack remains a mystery.
Just a short time later and a few miles north, the same suspect allegedly struck again. At West 93rd Street, a 37-year-old man was thrown to the ground and had his ear gruesomely bitten, in what police are calling a second unprovoked attack. Both victims were transported to Mount Sinai Morningside and are listed in stable condition.
While the motive for the violence is still unknown, investigators believe the attacks were random, a terrifying thought for those who frequent the popular park. The New York Police Department has confirmed they have a person of interest in questioning as they continue to piece together the events of the harrowing night.
