August 4, 2025 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking that took place last month in the Travis neighborhood of Staten Island. Police allege that the man, along with an accomplice, threatened a victim with what appeared to be a gun before stealing their vehicle.
According to a criminal complaint and police reports, James Champagne, of Castleton Corners, was taken into custody on July 23, one day after the incident occurred. The carjacking happened around 5:10 p.m. on July 22 in the 1700 block of South Avenue, between Industry Road and Meredith Avenue.
A source familiar with the investigation has identified the victim as a 25-year-old male. Champagne faces charges of first-degree robbery, among other offenses. The search for the second suspect is ongoing. This is an active investigation and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
