October 8, 2026 QUEENS, NY Panic rippled through a Queens campus when a routine hallway fight exploded into a terrifying close-up with a deadly weapon.

A 15-year-old student found himself slapped in handcuffs Wednesday afternoon after authorities unmasked a chilling secret tucked inside his school backpack: a loaded 9mm handgun.

According to high-ranking police sources, chaos erupted just after 1 p.m. inside the shared facility housing Martin Van Buren High School and Business Technology Early College High School, located on Hillside Avenue in Queens Village. Two teenage boys locked into a heated physical altercation, drawing the immediate intervention of school staff.

During the scramble to break up the fight, a sharp-eyed employee caught a glimpse of what no teacher ever expects to see in a classroom setting—the cold steel of a firearm nestled inside a student's pack.

Quick-thinking School Safety agents immediately swooped in, detaining the juvenile before he could slip away or escalate the threat further. Within moments, units from the NYPD's 105th Precinct flooded the campus, taking custody of both the teen and the weapon.

Investigators are aggressively picking apart how the firearm made it past building security and into the halls of learning. Charges are currently pending as the investigation continues to unfold, leaving parents and educators shaken by how close disaster came to striking the Queens campus.
