May 7, 2026 BRONX, NY — It was supposed to be a normal Wednesday morning. A 14-year-old boy sat in the back of a parked car near the Soundview Houses, scrolling through his phone or checking his backpack, waiting for his ride to school.
Instead, he was met with a hail of gunfire.
A Calculated Attack
The peace of the morning at the corner of Seward and Rosedale Avenues was shattered at 7:25 a.m. when a gunman walked up to the vehicle and pulled the trigger. This wasn't a stray bullet or a random act of street violence—NYPD sources are sounding the alarm that the teenager was deliberately targeted.
The assailant fired multiple rounds through the glass, hitting the boy in the left thigh. In a neighborhood where parents should feel safe sending their children to school, a middle-school-aged child was nearly executed in the backseat of a family car.
The Escape
As the smoke cleared, the shooter vanished. Police say the perpetrator fled on foot, heading northbound on Rosedale Avenue.
The victim was rushed by EMS to Jacobi Hospital. In a miracle of inches, the boy is currently in stable condition, but the psychological scars of a targeted hit-and-run shooting are likely to last a lifetime.
The Manhunt is On
The NYPD’s 43rd Precinct has released a grainy image of the man they believe is responsible. He is described as:
-
Complexion: Dark
-
Clothing: Last seen wearing a black sweater over a black t-shirt.
While shooting statistics in the 43rd Precinct are technically down compared to last year—dropping from nine to four year-to-date—that data is cold comfort to a family now dealing with a son in a hospital bed.

Can You Help?
The motive remains a chilling mystery. Why would someone target a 14-year-old on his way to school? Detectives are desperate for answers and are looking for anyone who saw the man in the black sweater fleeing the scene.
