September 8, 2025 A wave of violence swept across New York City on a quiet Sunday night, leaving one man dead and two others fighting for their lives in a series of separate and seemingly unrelated shootings. The incidents, which unfolded in the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan, have left residents on edge and the NYPD searching for answers and suspects in all three cases.
Bloody Sunday in the Bronx
The grim night began in the Bronx's Melrose neighborhood. At approximately 7:16 p.m. on September 7, police from the 42nd Precinct were called to an apartment building at 611 East 161st St. following reports of an assault. They arrived to a shocking scene: a 20-year-old man had been shot in the face. Paramedics rushed the victim to Lincoln Hospital with a bullet wound to his cheek, where he was listed in stable condition. Police have not yet identified a suspect or a motive, and no arrests have been made.
The Tragedy in Queens
Just over an hour later, the violence escalated with a fatal shooting in Queens. Around 8:30 p.m., a 911 call led 113th Precinct officers to a parking lot behind a store at 134-29 Guy R Brewer Blvd. in Rochdale. There, they found a 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his neck and shoulder. He was immediately taken to Jamaica Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances of his death, but as of now, no arrests have been announced.
Harlem Houses Hit by Gunfire
The final incident of the night occurred in Harlem just after 9 p.m. outside the Jefferson Houses, a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) complex located at 310 East 113th St. Responding to the scene, officers from the 23rd Precinct discovered a 23-year-old man lying between parked cars with a gunshot wound to the head. Using flashlights, officers and medics provided immediate aid before transporting him to Harlem Hospital. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition. Similar to the other shootings, police have not yet identified a motive, and no arrests have been made in this case.

A City Searches for Justice
With three separate shootings in three different boroughs, the NYPD is now working tirelessly to piece together what happened and bring those responsible to justice. The victims, ranging in age from 20 to 29, are a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle with gun violence in New York City.
