February 13, 2026 THE BRONX, NY is reeling after a wave of suburban-style streets turned into shooting galleries this week. The latest horror unfolded in the early hours of Friday, February 13, leaving a young man dead and a neighborhood looking over its shoulder.
Execution on Thwaites Place
At approximately 12:20 a.m., the quiet of Pelham Parkway was shattered by gunfire. A 26-year-old man was sitting inside a parked vehicle in front of an apartment building at 660 Thwaites Place when he was ambushed.
Responding officers from the 49th Precinct arrived to find a scene of desperation. The victim, clinging to life despite a gunshot wound to the chest, was still conscious enough to tell police he had been shot while simply sitting in his car.
In a race against time, officers bypassed an ambulance and rushed the victim to Jacobi Hospital in their patrol car. Despite their efforts, his condition plummeted, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Manhunt: Three Suspects in Black
Detectives are currently hunting for three suspects. Witness accounts and preliminary investigations describe a trio dressed in all-black clothing fleeing the scene immediately after the shots rang out. As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made, and the motive for the cold-blooded killing remains a mystery.
A Borough Under Siege: 3 Deaths in 4 Days
This shooting isn't an isolated tragedy—it’s the climax of a violent streak that has left the Bronx scarred. This marks the third deadly shooting in the borough since Tuesday:
-
Tuesday: A man was executed at the 170th Street subway station.
-
Wednesday: A 16-year-old boy’s life was cut short in Kingsbridge.
-
Friday: The fatal ambush at Pelham Parkway.

More Cops, More Questions
The spike in bloodshed comes at a moment of massive transition for the NYPD. Just days ago, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced a historic restructuring, splitting the Bronx into two patrol boroughs and deploying 200 additional officers to the streets.
While the 49th Precinct had been relatively quiet in 2026—reporting zero homicides until this morning—the sudden surge in violence across the borough is putting the department’s new strategy to an immediate, "trial-by-fire" test.
